This prototype from the Climatised Onjects Project is known as Standby, and it makes plugging in peripherals a whole lot more inconvenient. In addition, it glows in an angry, Sith-like red whenever you're sipping power from it. I know this will not take off on a commercial level as it is just too inconvenient for the home user, but it makes for a suitable artistic statement against greedy power consumption.
