T-shirt Goes One Up On Knives
Posted on Mar 23, 08 05:28 PM PDT

Check out this mesh-looking T-shirt from Nihon Uni of Japan - it apparently offers protection against knives, but only for slash attacks as they can still be punctured if a knife is plunged directly into it. Meant to offer some measure of security against a spate of malicious crimes that have been occurring lately in Japan, Nihon Uni ditches cotton for a material that is three times stronger than cotton. It is strong enough to counter slash attacks thanks to an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene fiber is equal to that of aramid fiber used in body armor. Moms need not worry as this lightweight t-shirt is machine-washable. A short-sleeved version starts from $190 upwards while long-sleeved varieties can cost anywhere from $220 to $590.
