30 Percent Improvement for Li-Ion Batteries

We all know that mobile computing’s biggest challenge is battery-life. And while it is important, progress have been mostly sluggish over the past few years. This may change thanks to the Argone National Laboratory’s research. By using different materials (manganese oxide instead of cobalt oxide) batteries are less prone to overheating. Also, better energy storage materials are used to increase the total capacity by about 30%.
And that’s not science fiction: Toda Kogyo, a Japanese company, plans to manufacture 30 Million of such batteries in the short-term. Now, it depends what they mean by “short term” :)
