Enkin Offers Basic Augmented Reality to Android
Apr 16, 08 09:46 AM PDT
Enkin is a research application developed for the Android Developer Challenge. It uses a mix of GPS positioning and image recognition to display building names in a live camera view. The Enkin user interface even uses the orientation sensor to display the text horizontally regardless of how the device is oriented.
It is still running on an emulator, but it proves that it can run on Android – provided that the processing power is high enough. The idea is not really new, but it’s cool to see it running on a mobile OS. This is a proof of concept that will likely turn into a product one day.
