In-flight Calls Not Too Hot
Posted on Apr 21, 08 05:16 PM PDT

While Air France has started to allow passengers to make voice calls on its flights, the reception isn't too hot as the first batch of passengers aren't too impressed by the service's quality. Since OnAir's service relies on a low-power base station on the plane in order to connect calls via satellite, the issue of lag crops up, and you can make a maximum of six calls simultaneously. One passenger even mentioned that it feels as though he was talking to a small robot - that's how poor the quality is. Also, once call quality drop, passengers will start to raise their voices instinctively, which is the very thing we try to avoid on the plane in the first place.
