Phoenix Technologies will be collaborating with Fujitsu in order to make remote disk control and disk data protection for mobile computing environments equipped with Fujitsu's new full disk encryption (FDE) 2.5" 7,200RPM SATA hard disk drive possible. This allows the laptop owner disable the Fujitsu FDE drive in the laptop remotely, providing a "failsafe" protection against data theft and personal information loss. The first hard drive in the series will be the Fujitsu MHZ2 CJ, supporting the hardware-based AES-256 bit encryption standard. Sounds pretty good to me - hopefully it will be affordable for everyone as well.
