Sharp Direct Methanol Fuel Cell
Posted on: May 15, 2008

Sharp has developed a prototype direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) which supposedly outputs more power for its size when compared to others that are currently available today. This news is pretty interesting and ought to make DMFC manufacturers sit up and take notice as this is the first time Sharp has disclosed its hand, and they have already leapfrogged past its competitors. The prototype DMFC battery has a power density of 0.3W/cc, producing up to 0.3 Watts of power per cubic centimeter. Sharp's ultimate immediate aim would be to develop fuel cells that are longer lasting than similar volume li-ion batteries. No idea how long this will take to be achieved, but I know I am waiting impatiently.
