Dell Charges for Windows XP Downgrade
Posted on Jun 18, 08 06:52 PM PDT

With Windows Vista being out for quite some time already, there are still folks who prefer Windows XP instead. Dell has decided to charge consumers up to £60 when it comes to installation of Windows XP on new PCs and laptops, which is daylight robbery IMHO. This 'downgrade' service should not cost that much - after all, it is but a tedious journey to take, but there isn't a high level of technicalities involved during the installation process, so why the prohibitively high cost?

I would wager they are trying to regain costs on drivers they have to build for new computers. Most new computers these days don't have XP drivers, such as my Toshiba laptop. Trying to assemble drivers for and older OS on advanced hardware is next to impossible. Dell is probably just doing this to pay for creating the drivers for an "old" OS...while making a small profit. ;-)
