Intel Z-P230 SSD

Intel has released a new Z-P230 solid state drive (SSD) that will ultimately aim to usurp the 1.8" hard drive found in tiny notebooks such as the MSI Wind. It won't offer a whole lot of storage space however, maxing out at 8GB at the moment although there is a 16GB version which is due in Q4 2008. It will communicate with the computer using a standard 40-pin ZIF PATA (IDE) system interface, measuring an impossibly small 38mm x 54mm x 4mm, making it roughly 25% the volume of a standard 1.8-inch hard disk drive. The final product will weigh just 10 grams and sips 1.65mW of power when idle and 314mW when operating. Good times are ahead for consumers IMHO.
