Samsung Omnia to hit AT&T

Word has it that the Samsung Omnia will be arriving on the AT&T network sometime in Q3 this year. This nifty little touch screen handset will feature :-

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
  • 5 megapixel camera with face detection technology
  • Quad-band EDGE/3G
  • WQVGA touch screen display
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • 8GB/16GB internal memory
There is no word on pricing, but AT&T will probably charge a premium for this rather high-end handset. Any takers?

IRT K-Dawg,

I definitely agree with you, it seems to have quite the edge over the new iPhone 3G. Its has a very attractive, (perhaps not as "clean" as the iPhone) sleek look to it. The Omnia's 5mp (also auto focusing) camera brings it many steps ahead of Apple in that respect. Also the Omnia includes a landscape-mode messageing option -- Something Apple should have fixed LONG ago in the iPhone.

Two big ISSUES here that Samsung needs to consider are these:

1 Priceing. After the recent and dramatic drop in the iPhone's prices Samsung needs to think about what price range they think that people will (not nessacerally) but approve of and "accept". Monthly fees will also need to fall into perspective. Just because Apple was rediculious enough to linch their customers, both present and new comers, doesn't mean that is smart business.

2 Apps/Applications. Samsung needs to be ready to "grab the bull by the horns" in this wing of new business. The Apple Apps Store and iPhone 3G 2.0 software are BIG advances in technology and are going to draw in a vast majority of Apple's iPhone cutomers. If Samsung does not rapidley begin making advances in this field they WILL fall far behing or be completley drawn out to the "New Tech" picture.

Personally, from what I've seen about the Omnia, I am going to wait things out until the market price and new (CONFRIMED) details come out about it. I have the money to go ahead and buy a new iPhone 3G but I have decided to take the "patients is a vertue" saying to heart.

-- If the Samsung Omnia turns out to be 8Gb = $399 & 16 GB = $499 price range, with $59.99 or $69.99 (A MONTH!) I will definitely turn around and buy the iPhone 3G over the Samsung Omnia.

Cheers!

We'll see if AT&T kills it by killing the WiFi in it... Then it truely will not be a "Omnia"

I've said it before and I'll say it again - this handset is easily superior to the iPhone 3G in almost every respect. It's baffling as to how these Apple fanboys can even attempt to argue that the iPhone is better than the Omnia.
