Ericsson and 3 Test 5.8Mbps 3G Uploads
Posted on Jul 16, 08 08:00 PM PDT

Both Ericsson and the Italian cell carrier 3 can toast to the successful testing of the first 3G network based on enhanced High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) in the world. This new service is capable of uploading data to the network at 5.8Mbps in peak conditions, with even faster downloads compared to majority of existing services (ideally 3.6Mbps currently). In addition, this new technology reduces the amount of lag that is a bane to video calls, multiplayer games and time-sensitive features. No idea on when this technology will be made available to all and sundry, but it must be stressed that trial speeds do not often translate to actual users' speed in real world conditions.
