AT&T Announces Official iPhone 3G Pricing, Free Software Update for Current iPhone Users
Jul 1, 08 05:59 AM PDT
If you were anxiously waiting to see how expensive your iPhone 3G envy was going to be, here is the answer:
1/ The device
If you sign on for a new 2 year contract, the phone will cost $199 (8GB) or $299 (16GB). According to AT&T here are the three conditions required to get these prices. We quote:
- iPhone customers who purchased before July 11
- Customers activating a new line with AT&T
- Current AT&T customers who are eligible, at the time of purchase, for an upgrade discount
If the above does not fit your situation, you should know that “existing AT&T customers not eligible for an upgrade discount purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement”. At later, but undisclosed date, AT&T will offer a no-contract-required (that does not mean unlocked) iPhone 3G for $599 or $699, depending on size.
2/ The plans
They all include unlimited data, a requirement to use your to-be-favorite phone, right?
Personal- NationSM Unlimited: unlimited Anytime Minutes $129.99/mo
- Nation 1350: 1350 Anytime Minutes and unlimited N&W Minutes for $109.99/mo
- Nation 900: 900 Anytime Minutes and unlimited N&W Minutes for $89.99/mo
- Nation 450: 450 Anytime Minutes and 5,000 N&W Minutes for $69.99/mo
iPhone family plans starts at $130 and up to three additional iPhone lines can be added for $40 each. Then there are various combinations if you include unlimited SMS.
BusinessTo have access to corporate email, you will have to spend $45, in addition of a voice-plan, the cheapest being at $40, if I remember correctly.
3/ iPhone Software Update
Good news: the software update with all the cool stuff (like searching a contact using the first letter of his/her name, duh) will be available at no charge for current iPhone users.
