Motorola Drops to 5th Place
Posted on Jul 10, 08 06:41 AM PDT

Things really aren't looking that good for the big M (not Microsoft, mind you) as the company has just dropped to fifth place where handset shipments are concerned in the second quarter of the year. This means Motorola is now playing catch-up with rivals LG Electronics and Sony Ericsson, no thanks to shipments that max out at 23 million units - this is in comparison to 28.1 million and 24 million cell phones from LG and Sony Ericsson, respectively. Despite the drop in Q2, Motorola retains its fourth place for the first half of the year - that's not much consolation if you ask me. Nokia and Samsung need not worry yet as they have shipped 240 million and 95 million handsets, respectively. What should Motorola do to stem the tide?
