The next Intel processor, using an architecture codenamed “Nehalem”, brings a surprising boost of performance compared to current CPUs. We’re talking about anywhere between 20% and 40% in intensive applications, especially the ones that are multi-core friendly (video compression, software 3D rendering…). Thanks to Hyper-Threading, a technique that allows more threads to be decoded and executed simultaneously, Nehalem beats current CPUs by a large margin… I’m just glad that I didn’t upgrade my PC quite yet (selfish thought, huh?). I meant to ask: are you looking forward to get a new CPU or do you just see them as a commodity like memory or hard disks? Which part of a PC is most important to you?
