Solar-Powered Toyota Prius
Posted on Jul 7, 08 02:43 PM PDT

According to Japan's business news source, Nikkei (online), Toyota is planning a Prius with solar panels by Kyocera Corp. Toyota has not unveiled any design plans for the solar panels. The solar panels will power the air conditioning on the Prius. If the solar panels on the Prius are only used to power the car's air conditioning, in my opinion, it would be like a kind of waste as the solar panels could be used to power the car instead improving gasoline fuel efficiency.

It was just a question of time that the first car comes out with a solar panel roof. I was writing in my blog Innovative News about the first car using water as fuel. We make more and more steps toward the right direction!

Actually, this makes a lot of sense, as the A/C compressor is an incredible drag on the engine. Allowing the A/C to be powered by a solar panel array and an electric motor instead of being driven off a belt from the motor should save quite a bit of gas, I'd imagine.
