Toshiba MK4058GSX 400GB Hard Drive

Toshiba has a brand new 2.5" hard drive known as the MK4058GSX. Engineers at Toshiba have managed to squeeze in 400GB in just two platters, and this is made possible by boosting areal density to 477Mbit/mm2 (308Gb/psi). One of the technologies involved is improving the read-write head and using an enhanced magnetic layer. Despite the added capacity compared to its predecessor (320GB), the thickness of the drive still remains at 9.5mm. I guess with developments like this, you won't see SSD-equipped notebooks gaining popularity overnight anytime soon. Mass production of the Toshiba MK4058GSX 400GB hard drive will begin this August.
