Asus Download Center Launched
Posted on Aug 25, 08 08:15 PM PDT

Asus has just rolled out its new software download center that caters specifically to Eee PC users only. At time of publishing, there are more than 3,400 free Linux applications to choose from, ranging from games to media players and office applications. Hopefully most of these won't be shovelware, and that there will be some sort of quality control. Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though there is an easy way to install these programs on a current generation Eee PC. The reason being, clicking the "Install" button of the desired program will cause your Eee PC to download a CNR extension file, which was specifically designed for the Linspire Linux operating system. Too bad Xandros doesn't support CNR, as all Linux-powered Eee PCs are running on Xandros. Hopefully all these oversights get sorted out soon, otherwise we have 3,400 and more applications residing on a server without doing anything useful.
