Panasonic green low-power DECT phones? Not so fast

Panasonic is presenting the DECT 6.0 phone as a "green" phone because it is Energy Star compliant and supposedly consumes less power than similar devices. While I applaud the (very small) energy savings, I would like to ask: how much can it possibly consume, especially in comparison to the energy (and the gas emissions) that it took to build it, transport it and store it. Also, how much energy will it take to get recycle all that plastic? I would sure like to find the carbon footprint that this "green" product will generate during its life cycle. By the way, the power consumption is so (not) important that they neglected to put it in the specification on Amazon. Green marketing…
