Push Notification Feature Taken Out From Fourth iPhone 2.1 Beta
Posted on Aug 17, 08 10:52 PM PDT

It seems as though the new test version of Apple's iPhone 2.1 beta firmware update will no longer support a key service that enables background data for native apps, and Cupertino themselves have not indicated whether this feature will return in the future or not. This feature has been present since beta 1 onwards, and is still good to supply directional GPS data as a part of its upgrades. Apple did not explain the reason behind this removal, but touts that the notification code has been pulled pending "further development". Hopefully the final iPhone 2.1 firmware update which will be out this September will see the push notification feature reinstated.
