Quicktime Encoding/Decoding Hardware Rumor
Posted on Aug 11, 08 08:43 AM PDT

Word has it that Apple will be throwing in a Quicktime encoding/decoding chip into their future products, somewhat like how MPEG2 decoders were integrated to deal with DVD playback. It seems that this rumored addition will handle MPEG4 only. This piece of news would come as a boon to folks who deal with programs such as Quicktime for iTunes, iMovie and Final Cut Pro on a daily basis, but then again current high end video cards already handle video intensive programs pretty well. As with all rumors, it is only a matter of time before it was smashed or confirmed, so sit tight and enjoy the ride.
