UK Stretches Waterproof Capability
Posted on Aug 27, 08 12:43 PM PDT

Plasma Product Innovation of the UK has successfully developed a chemical which is touted to make any material 100% waterproof. This chemical is already being shared with sportswear manufacturers, and it would be interesting to see how it is applied in the world of personal consumer electronics. The process known as "ion masking" will create a water-repelling membrane over materials, so assuming your iPhone is coated with this, dropping it into the loo due to a bad case of butterfingers won't bother you one bit - other than having to fish it out from the porcelain throne, of course. If this sort of waterproof protection sounds familiar, perhaps it is due to our coverage of the Shellback Coating? Would be interesting to see which manufacturer jumps aboard this train first.
