VIA Quits Motherboard Chipset Business
Posted on Aug 11, 08 10:25 AM PDT
VIA has thrown in the towel where motherboards are concerned, which is not so surprising considering that they have close to non-existant market share (1%?). VIA will still continue to develop low-power chipsets for integrated motherboards that are powered by the Nano processor though, but Intel and AMD can forget about getting VIA's assistance in this aspect. These are tough times we’re living in, no doubt about it.
Each of the other players: Intel, AMD, NVIDIA have an edge from intellectual property like SLI for NVIDIA or simply because they make the processors that connect to the chipset.
