Invision.TV: a Sleek Interactive Program Guide to Browse Internet Video

[DEMOFall 08] Today, Invision.tv, a cool application that helps users discover video, is launching at DEMO. I tried quickly Invision.tv against two of its competitors, Truveo and Blinkx. Invision.tv returns results pretty fast and the results are displayed in a better way than the two other sites, Blinkx is really bad in comparison. Regarding relevancy, it depended on the keywords, Invision.tv and Truveo were pretty ok. Invision.tv combines video search and discovery with social networking and personalization, which is quite unique. The technology is patent pending, it leverages computerized, personal and social search algorithms in conjunction with profile and usage information. Most of the time, users can watch the videos directly in the player embedded in the page results, which is more convenient than going to another page. According to Invision.tv CEO Derrick Frost, some media sites do not support embedding their players so this is when Invision has to take users directly to their sites, he would rather have all content providers allowing this because it makes a much better experience. Invision.tv business model is advertising revenue share (banners and pre-roll ads), syndication and licensing to third party websites, cable/IPTV providers, mobile operators, and CE providers with Internet connected TVs, Set-Top boxes, and gaming consoles. I like the overall user experience and the sleek design of this new video discovery service.
