Phones To Detect Bombs

Here's a novel way to detect bombs in public places - using cell phones with special chips inside, making them much more effective (cost and practical-wise) than expensive radiation detectors.

Technologists at Purdue University is designing a detection system that's so small it could fit into cell phones. The project, known as Distributed Nuclear Detection by Ubiquitous Cell Phone, would help locate dirty bombs or nuclear weapons by "triangulating" the source of radiation when people carrying mobile phones pass by.

The more cell phones are equipped with this chip, the higher the degree of precision. Would be interesting to see how this idea pans out in real world application though.
