Sharp looks as though they have nailed this on the head correctly - a solar-powered LED street lamp that comes with integrated Seismic Motion Sensors that are capable of detecting earthquakes of 5 or greater over the Japanese seismic scale. Upon detection, it will switch to full illumination for two nights, restoring energy used up during the day while the sun is out. This is neat, as it will definitely go a long way in helping rescue operations continue throughout the night instead of being suspended temporarily in a situation where time is of the essence. Since LEDs don't emit ultraviolet light, this also means less insects will congregate around the light unlike fluorescent or incandescent lights.
