Datacask Jupiter 1014A Netbook Checked Out

Netbooks are dime a dozen these days, and the Datacask Jupiter 1014A is yet another model in the market that sports pretty much the same specifications like the rest, including an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, a 10.2" display at 1,024 x 600 resolution and a choice between Windows XP or Linux as the operating system. In comparison with the Eee PC 1000, though, here are some thoughts.

The netbook’s glossy cover is attractive, but it’s also a fingerprint magnet. The trackpad is much smaller than the Eee PC 1000 trackpad. The keyboard is a bit smaller than the Eee PC 1000 keyboard, but easy to touch-type on. For some reason the Fn key is to the left of the left Ctrl key, and the right shift key is to the right of the up arrow, as is the case on so many netbooks. The Eee PC 1000 is nearly two inches wider than the Jupiter 1014A.

How does that influence your purchase decision? I guess this is where brand power as well as pricing comes in.
