Dell has settled for low-key launches of its new Vostro range of tower desktops, with the Vostro 420, 220 and 220s hitting the scene quietly. The Vostro 420 mid-tower offers the highest performance of the three, with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz processor, a 256MB Radeon HD3450 video card, 1GB RAM, DVD drive and 80GB hard drive being the starting point with a $549 price tag. Depending on your budget, you can choose to upgrade the processor and video card to an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz and 512MB GeForce 8800 GT, respectively. As for the Vostro 220 and slimline 220s, both target the entry-level market with a couple of hard drive bays, a solitary optical drive and limited media options. You can pick up a stock 220 for $319, while the 220s will start from $379 upwards.
