FireWire No More In New MacBook?

Could the next generation MacBook and MacBook Pro cases point towards a lack of FireWire connectivity when it comes to the entry level system? This certainly seems to be the case, according to detailed leaks of Apple's next generation MacBooks. With the MacBook Pro, one can expect a new through-the-tray keyboard layout, a latch-free magnetic lid and redesigned speaker grilles. As for the new standard MacBook, it has less spectacular changes, but will still hop aboard the aluminum bandwagon (that could you last year's Coke can you recycled...). Would removing a FireWire port be a prudent move for Apple, considering many of Apple's peripherals rely on FireWire to remain connected? I'm not too sure what the rationale behind this move is...
