HP bets on touch screens to spur demand?

The wall street journal thinks that HP is counting on the current fascination around touch screens to spur demand for its upcoming laptops (we're talking about finger-friendly computers here). Sure, HP has shown a real interest in the technology by shipping its TouchSmart PCs (read our IQ506 hands-on). It is an interesting concept that works quite well on a large display (except for the price), but the HP interface was built for larger displays and still has a long way to go before "spurring demand". I don't doubt that HP will release touch screen laptops - I think they will, but I hope that they got the user-interface right. As we often say at Ubergizmo, software is where the value is.
