Iridium Launches 9555 Satellite Phone

Iridium is back with yet another satellite handset known as the 9555. This comes in a much more manageable form factor as compared to its predecessors, making it look as though you’re actually carrying a real cell phone instead of some ancient piece of telecommunications technology. Most of the antenna remains stowed internally, and does require a full extension only when the phone is being used. Features include :-

  • Speakerphone functionality
  • Brighter display
  • mini USB connectivity
  • Improved SMS and email functions
  • Water- and shock-resistant

With a 30-hour standby time and 4 hour talk time, you’re going to need to charge this baby frequently, but expect to travel the world without losing touch with the Iridium 9555. There is a 99% connection rate for initial calls, and a 98% call completion rate for conversations under three minutes. The Iridium 9555 will be out this November but pricing has yet to be announced.
