KDDI Portable Viewer System

KDDI's researchers certainly made good with the new Portable Viewer System that enables a cell phone to transmit an image onto its 13.1" color electronic paper display sans wires, making it the first device of its kind in the world. Too bad it relies on infrared technology, which can be painfully slow if you're trying to deliver an 8 megapixel image. Would be nice to see more up-to-date technology used like Bluetooth, so hopefully the final version will ditch infrared. The display currently relies on Brigdestone Corp.'s Electronic Liquid Powder technology and is capable of display a mere 4,096 colors. It will take approximately 1/5 of a minute to redraw the entire image on the display. No word on a commercial release as at press time.
