You could actually be charging your iPhone or iPod while you're walking in the near future if NTT has its way. The Japanese telecommunications company have managed to develop a pair of shoes which actually harness kinetic energy we generate by producing an electrical charge. At this point in time, the average walking speed and stance of a person will be able to produce around 1.2 watts of electricity which is good enough to keep your iPod going (assuming you don't stop, of course). The boffins at NTT aim to hit the 3 watts mark in order to power cell phones as well. Hopefully we'll see a commercial product by the time 2010 rolls around.
