Sharp Develops LCD Panel With Memory Function

Sharp has managed to manufacture an LCD panel that features a memory function which is able to retain the displayed content long after the power supply has been cut off. This LCD panel is currently being paraded at FPD International 2008 and will come in 14.1", 6.1", 2.4" and 1.7" sizes. What makes these panels tick is the use of a cholesteric LCD material, although Sharp did not venture further by giving out more specifics such as LCD cell structure, applied voltage and power consumption. Unfortunately, it seems as though more work needs to be done as power consumption has been touted to be "relatively large". It can't be used outdoors though, since it has an operational temperature range of -25 to +55°C.
