Samsung Omnia escapes Verizon's WiFi castration

There was some speculation as to whether or not the Omnia would be released via Verizon with its WiFi capability intact. BGR has obtained a picture which seems to show that the WiFi is advertised on the box at least. Hopefully this means they are including the feature, and that it will remain through release. If they want to compete with the iPhone, WiFi will be necessary. Many are accusing Verizon of "castrating" phones on its network to oblige users to use the data plan. If true, this is pretty dumb in our opinion: users will have to use the data plan anyway because WIFI coverage is so scarce, so why not let them enjoy higher speeds and much better latency while they are at home or in the office? After all, once they have paid the monthly fee, why does Verizon care?
