NEC certainly loves the environment as much as the next GreenPeace activist, and recently showcased its green products - the Valuestar desktop series and LaVie notebook series at the Eco-Products 2008 event in Japan. First off, we have the LaVie T notebook that complies with the RoHS Directive, featuring kenaf-added bioplastic in the memory dummy card and the use of "Nucycle" containing silicone fire retardant in about 75% of the plastic parts of the cabinet. These plastic materials won't be detrimental to the human health since it will hardly produce any triphenyl phosphate. Assuming the whole world starts to tote notebooks and portable devices with such green materials, surely the incidence of sick building syndrome and organic phosphor contamination will be reduced by a noticeable margin. Unfortunately, the million dollar question is - do we even care?
