Think your Blu-ray disc is the bomb? Well, it is time to tuck your tail between your legs as Pioneer parades its 16-layer optical disc that is able to hold a whopping 400GB worth of data. This technology owes much to Blu-ray though, although it uses a totally different material to make up its reflective layers despite relying on similar Blu-ray specifications where the pick-up head (PUH) of the disc is concerned. That would mean being able to read these Pioneer discs on Blu-ray players that are in the market. Pioneer's internal roadmap show that its super multi-layer technology development will ready read-only (ROM) discs in 2008 to 2010, while rewritable discs will make a splash in 2010 to 2012 and the coveted 1TB (1,000GB) disc in 2013.
