South Koreans To Get BlackBerry 9000

Those living in South Korea will be able to get their hands on the BlackBerry 9000 after April 1st next year (this is no April Fool's joke), thanks to South Korean regulators lifting a regulation that requires handsets to include particular software to access wireless internet. To date, the Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability (or WIPI) has proved to be an insurmountable obstacle for many handset manufacturers from entering the market, no thanks to a marked increase in installation costs. It will be interesting to see which of the affected manufacturers will take the plunge in the South Korean market once this regulation is lifted.
