Toshiba Announces 512GB SSD
Posted on Dec 17, 08 06:40 PM PDT

Toshiba is first off the blocks iwth its 2.5" 512GB solid state drive, thanks to their latest 43 nanometer assembly process and particularly dense multi-level cell storage that is able to double the current 256GB record that was achieved earlier this year. Not only do you get more space to play around with, the capacity boost is also accompanied by faster performance, capable of hitting (theoretical) read speeds of 240MB/s and write speeds of 200MB/s. Longevity has been clocked at approximately one millon hours (114 years) between failures, courtesy of reduced wear on potentially short-lived memory cells. Other features include AES encryption to keep your data safe and the ability to plug into a standard SATA notebook drive bay. It'll probably cost a bomb though.
