Windows Market Share Dips Under 90 Percent

Microsoft Windows, the operating system that has long been a mainstay of the computing world, could finally be in decline. For the first time in 15 years, the Windows OS market share has dropped to 89.62%. While that wouldn't get the Seattle-based company scrambling to their emergency battle stations, it does raise a few concerns about the constant declining market share since 2004, losing an average of 1.7% market share annually since then. We presume that Vista has something to do with this, and chances are Microsoft hopes to reverse this trend when Windows 7 rolls out. In a closed numbers game, one man's loss is another man's gain, so it isn't surprising to see Apple's market share hitting 8.87% compared to 6.80% from last year.
