Zoll Defibrillator Gets Wi-Fi

It seems not too long ago that Wi-Fi was a dirty word at hospitals, but nice to know that old prejudices have been broken down in time, with more and more clinics relying on wireless network to improve the standard of care they afford patients by a few notches. The FDA themselves have recently approved a Wi-Fi-equipped external defibrillator from ZOLL, and this device is able to alert staff if something goes pear-shaped, sans wires. It will use ancient 802.11b Wi-Fi technology though, but that ought to be enough although we're sure future revisions will see it hit g and possibly n speeds. The R Series defibrillators will send an alert automatically when their state of readiness is compromised, and it is hoped that these early notification will maximize patient safety. Too bad it won't double up as an email terminal when it is not needed for emergencies.
