Are external displays the next big thing for desktop computers or notebooks? Perhaps, if not Buffalo of Japan would not have released their FTD-W71 USB LCD display. The design itself isn’t anything to write home about, while the 800 x 480 resolution and 500:1 contrast ratio won’t impress anybody, but hey – at least it offers you more visual real estate, right? All you need to do is make sure your computer has an extra USB port and you’re good to go. While folks who spend plenty of time tied to a desktop might prefer to get a larger monitor outright, we think that USB LCD displays are better suited for the netbook market as those generally don’t have the screen size that makes it comfortable to work with, especially when you’re used to 19″ monitors and above.
