EDAG To Unveil Light Car Open Source

EDAG (Engineering & Design, AG) from Germany has just unveiled its concept that will see action at the Geneva Motor Show in March, boasting key elements that center around materials and construction. The official name isn't easy to remember though - Light Car - Open Source is not exactly what you would call something so futuristic looking. The Light Car part is due to its fundamental design as a car which communicates with drivers on the road using an OLED light system, where segments of the car's key body panels are constructed from OLED display material (that includes the front and rear lights). Owners can go nuts customizing the lights at will by changing the shape and design similar to how one configures a computer desktop theme. Within, a similar custom theme with reconfigurable displays are available as well. The material of choice for the EDAG Light Car is a new basalt fiber composite that is not only lightweight but made from strong and 100% recyclable building material. As for the open source part, this shoves it into the realm of a collaborative, contributive, community project. No idea whether this can run as well as it looks...
