Palm Pre Pricing Update

Remember our earlier post on the Palm Pre pricing courtesy of a Russian gentleman who rarely got his stories wrong? Apparently there has been a miscommunication, and the Pre's final pricing is supposed to be $399 or $499 unlocked, while retailing for $149 or $199 on contract. If that is true, expect Palm to sell a whole lot more Pres than expected, although there has been word from the Palm camp as to why they shouldn't match (or go lower than) the iPhone's price point since the Pre is a "better product". Interestingly enough, the initial production run will remain in the region of 200,000 or so, no thanks to the limited manufacturing capacity for the Pre's screen hardware. What do you think of the Pre's pricing, and how much is a fair price?
