Tweet-a-Watt Lets World Know How Green You Are
Posted on Jan 22, 09 08:39 AM PDT

Proud that you're doing your part in keeping the earth green with your whole home appliance collection meeting Energy Star standards? Well, why not tweet your achievement to the whole world with Tweet-a-Watt - this is actually a modified Kill-a-Watt that includes a capacitor and transmitter so that your current power usage can be sent to Twitter via a nearby computer or wireless Arduino mini PC. The transmitter is powered by a large capacitor that naturally chargers, transmits and discharges over time. Subsequently, an XBee module is used to transmit the information read by the Kill-a-Watt so that you have the latest status report on your energy usage. Nice to know this kit will be going open source in the near future for you to have a similar set up at home. Folks who love blowing their own trumpets might want to check it out.
