[CES 2009] Universal Display will be showing off its prototype flexible AMOLED communication device at Digital Experience 2009, an event under the CES 2009 umbrella. This unique device was manufactured with support from the U.S. Department of Defense, offering a wrist-worn flexible AMOLED communication device that is fabricated on metal foil, offering portability, ruggedness and conformability in a single device. Since OLED displays are extremely efficient and energy saving, this ultra-thin display is able to show off beautiful images at a wide viewing angle in a novel form factor without being powered by a bulky battery, making it suitable for wearing on the wrist without having to have biceps as large as WWE wrestlers. Apart from watch phones, we would be interested to see where else this technology can be applied.
