Android Netbook From Freescale Semiconductor

Freescale Semiconductor has just released word on their line up for this year - they will be releasing an Android-powered netbook sometime in the second quarter of this year and will retail for approximately $100 - that's roughly 50% cheaper compared to the standard $200 price point that entry level netbooks hover around. While you will get Wi-Fi connectivity, you can forget about built-in 3G support. How do you think Android will fare on a netbook when it has still to make a serious impact in the world of smartphones? With Windows 7 not too far off, interesting times are definitely ahead of us. Freescale's netbooks to be released this year will also feature support for third-generation operating systems from Phoenix Technologies and Xandros.

Update: Freescale has brought to our attention that unlike what was published by other online publications, "Freescale believes that its technology can enable OEMs to create Netbooks that retail at sub-$200 price points".
