Ericsson To Demonstrate HSPA+ Technology

Ericsson will be demonstrating its second implementation of its HSPA+ multi-carrier technology that is able to hit a theoretical maximum download rate of 42Mbps at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. According to Ericsosn, this multi-carrier technology enables users to receive data on two frequency channels simultaneously, hence doubling the user data rate in HSPA network coverage areas. Currently, Telstra of Australia is using an early HSPA+ network which enables download speeds of up to 21Mbps - that's mighty fast by any standard, even more so where cell phones are concerned. The demonstration at MWC '09 will rely on an Ericsson Mobile Broadband Router. Ericsson hopes that the HSPA+ multi-carrier technology will be ready for a commercial launch before 2010.
