Intelligent Transportation System In Japan

The Japanese seem to live an extremely automated life. Why do we say that? For starters, the ITS Promotion Council will be demonstrating its ITS-Safety 2010 (Intelligent Transportation System) that aims to help drivers get to their destination safer than ever before, reducing the chances of accidents happening with the help of some computing power. Some 30 vehicles have already been used in tests, and it will see participation from Japanese as well as overseas automakers. Both optical beacons and 5.8GHz band DSRC, 720MHz band wireless communication will be utilized in the following systems :-
- Rear-end collision and signal disregard prevention system (DSSS)
- Traffic condition information system (Smartway)
- Obstacle Information System (Collaboration of DSSS and Smartway)
- Stop sign disregard and head-on collision prevention system (Collaboration of DSSS and ASV)
- Emergency vehicle warning system (ASV)
- Head-on collision prevention support system (DSSS)
- Right-turn collision prevention system ASV)
- Head-on collision prevention support system (ASV)
- Left-turn collision prevention system (ASV)
- Right-turn collision prevention support system (DSSS)
Can't wait for vehicles there to ferry us about without the need to actually drive it.
