Samsung Omnia 16GB Rumor

Word on the street has it that Samsung will be giving its Omnia (see our review) a memory bump to a whopping 16GB - that's double of what the original carried. Apart from that, most of the other specifications are pretty much the same as what you'll find in the now relegated 8GB Omnia, including :-

  • Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • Single-band UMTS/HSDPA (2100 MHz - HSDPA up to 7.2 Mbps)
  • Graphics chip with 3D acceleration and support for Direct 3D
  • Marvell PXA312 624 MHz processor
  • 256MB ROM
  • 128MB RAM
  • 3.2” WQVGA (240 x 400 pixels, 262,144 color) touchscreen display
  • Samsung TouchWiz GUI
  • 5 megapixel camera with Flash and Auto-Focus
  • Secondary QCIF front camera for video calls
  • Built-in GPS sensor
  • FM Radio with RDS
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity
  • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
  • microSDHC memry card slot (up to 32GB)
  • 1440 mAh Li-ion battery

16GB is definitely an interesting number. We're looking at the Palm Pre and wondering whether the 8GB included in that will be enough for everyday use, and perhaps this is a pre-emptive strike by Samsung to tide them over the Pre's release before their next big thing is announced. One clear advantage this has over the Palm Pre is the inclusion of a microSDHC memory card slot for further expansion. What do you think?
