Shock Absorber Generates Electricity
Posted on Feb 11, 09 11:17 PM PDT

A bunch of undergraduates at MIT have pooled their brains together to come up with this shock absorber which generates electricity whenever your vehicle hits bumps in the road. This is able to assist your vehicle in getting another 10% improvement in overall vehicle fuel efficiency, which is pretty impressive. These prototype shock absorbers will utilize a hydraulic system which forces fluid through a turbine that is connected to a generator. The system will then be controlled by an active electronic system that helps optimize the damping, providing a smoother ride compared to conventional shocks all the while being green by generating electricity so that batteries can be recharged or electrical equipment can be used.
